Principles of Prayer - PREFACE

Principles of Prayer - PREFACE

A wise preacher once said, "You can't do more than pray until you have prayed."  The Christian life apart from prayer is an exercise in futility.

Believers aren't obliged to work miracles, healing the sick and raising the dead.  They also have no obligation to achieve some kind of worldly recognition, or acquire exceedingly great wealth, or excel in scholarly pursuits.  But they are obliged to pray.  Prayer is God's business, and it's something we can do.

Please memorize the following Bible verses and related themes as part of this practical study.

PRAYER - THE INVITATION

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."  Jeremiah 33:3.

PRAYER - THE OBLIGATION

"Men ought always to pray and not lose heart."  Luke 18:1.

PRAYER - PASSION

"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."  James 5:16.

PRAYER - PERSISTENCE

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."  Matthew 7:7.

PRAYER - THE HINDRANCE

PRAYER - THE WILL OF GOD

"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him."  1 John 5:14, 15.

PRAYER - IN JESUS' NAME

"Until now you have asked nothing in My name.  Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."  John 16:24.
