Don't Worry - Luke 12

Don't Worry

Luke 12:1-59

Jesus said to His disciples, "Don't worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on."  For some Christians this is extremely difficult, especially today when food and fashion gets so much attention.  Yet despite the prosperity of some, society is not without the poor and needy.  The Lord spoke when many in Israel did not own a tunic, and often went to sleep hungry.

Life is more than food and clothing.  No one is exempt from anxiety.  Everyone is a candidate.

Jesus would tell you that your life is of value to God.  Consider how precious you are by looking at His care and provision for ravens and lilies.  The birds neither sow nor reap, and yet He feeds them.  Are you of less value to Him than a loud, annoying crow?  Of course not!  And look how the lilies grow.  They are more beautiful than Solomon in all of his glory.  Flowers are just about everywhere.  Even despicable weeds, that obnoxiously raise their proud, ugly heads, are all known to God.  You are indeed precious to the Lord.

Also, be mindful that "your Father knows that you need these things."  Is there anything that He doesn't know?  He knows all about us, the ups and downs and ins and outs.  Read Psalm 139:1-6.  Unfortunately in the United States we have many dropout fathers, who care very little about their children.  It's impossible to point to them as examples of true fatherhood.  Our heavenly Father isn't like them.  He cares about us, and He knows what we really need in all areas of our lives.

Finally, set your heart on heavenly things.  Someone has said, "Some people are so heavenly minded they aren't any earthly good."  But that isn't true.  A good way to get away from your worries is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.  That kingdom belongs to those who seek it.  Jesus said, "Sell what you have and give alms."  The NIV says, "Sell your possessions and give to the poor."  Be generous toward others in need, and not only will their needs by met, but your needs will be met, too.

And more...you will "provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys."  How would you like to be nicknamed "Money Bags"?  Make sure that your heart is in the right place, "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Father, we know that You are Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides.  You have given Your Son, and we are sure that You will not withhold from us our daily needs.  Use us as Your instruments in meeting the needs of others.  In Jesus' name.  Amen!

Navigation Tips

Since visitors use different browsers and monitors, and have different preferences in how they navigate through a website, we've provided multiple ways to progress through the studies on KnowingJesusChrist.com.

1) For those who find drop-down, slide-out menus convenient, just hover over the category (menu link on the top bar) and sub-category (menu link in the drop down list).  If there is an arrow to the right of the item, the articles in that category will slide out.  (If there is no arrow, just click on the item.)  Click on any article to read it.  If you have a "wheel mouse," you should be able to roll it toward you to see more of the drop-down menu.

2) If you are unable to see all the drop-down or slide-out items (or just prefer a different way of navigating), click on the category (menu link on the top bar), then on any sub-category in the list that appears.  You will see a list of articles to choose from OR use our Site Map.

3) Most studies are part of a series (category or sub-category).  Each article within the category has a link to the next article so you can progress easily to the next study.

4) At the top of the page, you will also notice "Breadcrumbs" that show which category and sub-category you are in.  You may click on those links to return to the "parent" category or sub-category list.

5) ANSWERS to Review Questions and Quizzes are found in links at the end of the Review Questions or Quiz.  They may also be accessed by clicking on the category (which will show a list of all articles in the category).  The link at the end of the article will cause a pop up window to appear so you may easily refer to other pages on the site; the link in the Category list will open a normal page.
